Evryn Sevcech, Secretary at the Illinois Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (IRID), holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in American Sign Language - English Interpretation from Columbia College Chicago (2021). Initially a full-time interpreter in K-12 settings, Evryn gained insights into Deaf Education and challenges faced by young Deaf students. From this, they transitioned to the mental health field, leading a team in the intake department at NOCD, developing their skills in leadership and communication. In 2024, Evryn made the switch into their career as a full-time freelance interpreter. At the heart of all of their work, Evryn's focus has remained on serving and advocating for and with the Deaf community. They now aim to enhance interpreter conditions and foster community within the profession, with a goal that all interpreters are supported to grow. Nowadays, you can find Evryn mentoring students at Columbia College, interpreting in the Chicagoland area, and working in the local community theater space, with a focus on accessibility.
