Advanced Medical Interpreting: Ethical Practice for Interpreters

This workshop will help medical interpreters to gain familiarity and comfort with ethical issues that arise in their work. Presenters will highlight the history of medical ethics and modern, medical ethical practices and facilitate a professional discussion on emerging best practices. The concepts of autonomy, beneficence, non-maleficence, and justice will be discussed to anchor participant’s approach to in-class case studies and to guide their professional practice going forward. Strategies on how to navigate complex ethical situations will be discussed. Participants will also have the opportunity to flesh-out these concepts during case study analysis.
